Emblem/Logo: The hydra – a metaphor for Metal, itself, which stands on four legs, representing the founders: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Venom with four heads representing “The Big Four”: Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer.
The hydra’s ability to grow two heads in the place of one is synonymous with Metal’s constant evolving of genres and sub-genres.
Name: “The Black Siren” denotes a dark, loud sound or scream; homage to the Greek titans, creatures half bird and half women who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of their song. “Black” insinuates corruption to that “sweetness,” yet a dark song still irresistibly alluring.
The Metal online community, with few exceptions, lacks regular access to wide-breadth, thoughtful writing and content that rises above the “cookie cutter” news stories and endless barrage of “top 10” lists.
Siren aims to serve as a place to explore, discuss, indulge, and express freely, fearlessly, while promoting the art, the artists, and tribal essence of Metal through word and design.
